The first author, Michael C. Henderson, was a founder and served as Chairman of Albina Community Bank from 1995 until he retired at the end of 2009. He first learned about idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) at the age of 58, when he was told that he had the disease. Ten years later, Mr. Henderson reflects on his passage through IPF in this personal narrative written with the assistance of Daniel M. Rose, Chief Executive Officer of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

A 25 year old male and his 46 year old aunt presented with shortness of breath and a dramatic response to steroids. The other two patients are sisters with more advanced disease.
